It was wonderful to see Oyster Book in conversation with the other artworks exhibiting as part of the ‘Violent Bodies’ exhibition. Particularly enjoyable to see the book in close interaction with Rosina Godwin’s piece Pupate (2023), which has these vibrant red tentacles snaking along the gallery floor and hanging from the ceiling in sinuous strands! These red appendages seemed to reach out towards the Oyster, threatening to subsume its plinth, making for a wonderful engagement between the pieces.
The exhibition hosted an incredible range of artworks, from moving digital installations, to sculptural works like Sarah Strachan’s earthy, ceramic installation Dawn (Xenogenesis) 2024.
I’m excited to see where the Oyster might go next – it’s a piece I created with the intention of movement, of being interacted with and touched, so I’m looking forward to having further opportunities for people to engage with this little book!
