Artist book comprising sewn cyanotypes created from seaweed found on the Kent coast, a cockle shell and a stone.
Cockle and Stone is an artist book exploring connectivity, space and play within tidal zones. A hand-stitched chain of seaweed cyanotypes connects a cockle shell with a small stone found on the foreshore in Kent, linking two found objects that did not necessarily originate but ultimately ended up in the same tidal space. The linking ‘chain’ of cyanotypes is hidden in the space between the rounded shell and the flat surface of the stone, and is revealed through interaction with the piece, exploring how human interaction in nature can be a playful and connective influence.
